The Clearwater Card Wallet
I met Kenny at the University of Idaho. Graduate school. We shared an office together. We also shared ideas and problems and music and books. Shared quite a few good times and a couple of bad ones. And a lot of laughs. I was there to get a Masters degree in English. I never really knew what Kenny was there for. He wasn’t an academic. He was a ski bum, actually. Spent most of his adult life in the mountains, clearing trails for the U.S. Forest Service all summer so he could afford to ski all winter. A little over halfway through his graduate program, he dropped out. He’d been offered a job as a Trail Boss, overseeing a section of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. The job paid little, but it came with a cabin to live in and winters off. Perfect for a ski bum. It didn’t take him long to decide. Moving was easy for him. He lived lightly. Pretty much all he owned would fit in a backpack. It hardly made a ripple when he left. I designed this wallet with Kenny in mind. I think he would have approved of it.
